Privacy Notice
This notice covers the Promenade project website only (the pages under this domain). It is operated by the Department of Data Science and Engineering, Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) — see the Imprint for the operator's contact details.
Cookies and trackers
Unlike ELTE's main university website, this site sets no cookies of its own — no session cookies, no consent-preference cookies, no advertising or social-media pixels. There is no cookie banner because there is nothing stored in a cookie to consent to. The one third-party service this site does use, described next, is also cookie-less by design and is not used to track you across other websites.
The Guide section includes a search box; it matches your query in your own browser against a static search index built at publish time, fetched from this same site (no third-party search service) — what you type is never sent anywhere to be processed.
If a browser's built-in theme preference (light/dark) is ever remembered between visits, it is stored locally in your own browser (localStorage), not in a cookie, and is never transmitted anywhere.
Website performance monitoring (Cloudflare)
This website's hosting/CDN provider, Cloudflare, runs its Real User Monitoring (Cloudflare Web Analytics) on this domain to measure page performance and traffic. Cloudflare designs this beacon to run without cookies or any persistent browser identifier, and states that it does not use the data to build an individual profile or to track visitors across other websites.
What it typically processes, per page view:
- the page requested and the referring page (if any),
- an approximate location derived from your IP address (typically country or region, not a precise location),
- your browser, operating system, and device type,
- page-loading performance metrics (e.g. load time and Core Web Vitals).
Cloudflare, Inc., not this website's operator, is the party actually processing this data on its own infrastructure; see Cloudflare's privacy policy for the full detail of what it collects and retains. The legal basis for this processing is a legitimate interest in keeping the website fast, reliable, and secure (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)).
What is processed regardless
Serving any website involves some minimal, standard web-server processing that this site cannot opt out of either: the hosting infrastructure's access logs typically record the requesting IP address, the requested page, the time of the request, and the browser's user-agent string, for operational and security purposes (diagnosing faults, detecting abuse) for a limited retention period. This is processed under the legal basis of a task carried out in the public interest (GDPR Article 6(1)(e) — operation of the website of a public-interest institution), the same basis ELTE applies to its own websites' strictly necessary processing.
